Chocolate Chip Scones

Tender and absolutely delicious! These scones are the perfect breakfast or dessert.



Chocolate Chip Scones:

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

5/8 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup sugar

8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter

2 eggs

3/4 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup chocolate chips

(optional) Chocolate Ganache:

1 cup good quality chocolate

1 cup heavy cream


Chocolate Chip Scones:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Mix eggs, heavy cream, and vanilla. Set aside.
  3. Whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  4. Grate in butter.
  5. Toss lightly with flour mixture.
  6. Gently mix in chocolate chips.
  7. Add cream mixture and fold gently into flour mixture (just enough to dampen dry ingredients).
  8. Turn dough out on a heavily floured surface, sprinkle the top with flour, and roll out in a circle.
  9. Cut into eight wedges.
  10. With a pastry brush, brush off any excess flour on your scones.
  11. Set scones on a parchment-lined baking pan and bake for 20 minutes or until light golden color.


(optional) Chocolate Ganache:

  1. Place chocolate in a glass mixing bowl.
  2. Heat cream just until bubbles form around edges.
  3. Pour hot cream over chocolate.
  4. Allow to sit undisturbed for 10-12 minutes.
  5. Using a spatula, gently stir together until smooth. Do NOT beat!
  6. With a piping bag or spoon, lightly drizzle ganache over scones and serve.
